The demand for continued and extended use of oil and gas production facilities on the UK continental shelf is likely to increase over time. This guidance aims to inform and influence duty holder approaches to the management of ageing and life extension (ALE). The document focuses on ALE management of floating production installations and complements general management system guidance set out in the Oil & Gas UK Guidance on the Management of Ageing and Life Extension for UKCS Oil & Gas Installations, Issue 1, April 2012. The guidance applies to both ship-shaped and semi-submersible production installations but does not address the particular features of mobile offshore drilling units. The document covers the structure of the installation and the features and systems which are unique to floating production installations (e.g. watertight hull structure, cargo systems, ballast systems and marine utilities). The guidance is intended for use by technical authorities, design engineers, relevant operations personnel, onshore support functions, HSE Inspectors, Independent Verifiers and Classification Society personnel.
