  • New guidelines launched in effort to boost production efficiency

    Highly anticipated industry guidelines designed to boost production efficiency in the UK Continental Shelf have been published by Oil & Gas UK. Between 2004 and 2012 the UK Continental Shelf (UKCS) faced the significant challenge of a sustained decline in levels of production efficiency (PE), falling from 80 per cent to 60 per cent.     Guidelines to Maximise Compression System Efficiency aims to address gas compression losses, which accounted for over 40 million boe (barrels of oil equivalent) in unplanned production losses in 2015.   • Bibby Offshore completes significant decommissioning contract with Maersk Oil UK

    Bibby Offshore, a leading subsea services provider to the oil and gas industry, has announced a multimillion pound contract with a global energy player, Maersk Oil UK, to provide both late life production enhancement and decommissioning support in the North Sea. The contract saw Bibby Offshore’s diving support vessel Bibby Polaris operate at two separate locations, undertaking production system isolations and critical component replacements to facilitate late life production enhancement, together with comprehensive decommissioning support, which includes subsea deconstruction and infrastructure recovery.   • New investment increases Briggs Marine Contractors Diving Division capabilities

    As part of its ongoing growth plans, Briggs Marine Contractors has made a six-figure investment into its diving division’s capabilities with the purchase of a dual basket diver Launch and Recovery System (LARS). The system, which was manufactured by Submarine Manufacturing Products Ltd (SMP), comes as Briggs experiences increased demand for safe, high quality and compact diving solutions.   • Stena Drilling extends inspection contract with Sparrows Group

    Sparrows Group has been awarded a three-and-a-half-year extension to its inspection services contract for Stena Drilling’s global fleet of drilling vessels. The contract scope includes carrying out LOLER lifting gear surveys, potential dropped objects surveys, cargo carrying unit (CCU) and non-destructive testing (NDT) inspections as well as rig specific maintenance.   • Veolia and Peterson facility at Great Yarmouth receives the first offshore structure for decommissioning

    Veolia and Peterson have accepted the first offshore structure into their Great Yarmouth decommissioning facility. The Shell Leman BH platform accommodation block, known as the ‘topside’, arrived into the harbour on 11th July and the 50m-high steel jacket structure that supported the topside is due to follow later in July. The topside, which was previously used as living quarters for personnel working on the Leman BT and Leman BK platforms, has now come to its new home to be recycled. Read more…

    DNV GL has reorganised their research and testing capability in the UK adding a facility at Bishop Auckland, County Durham, UK, to the portfolio. The site, formerly known as the Flow Centre, has been positioned to complement and enhance the research and testing capability at Spadeadam in Cumbria, increasing the scope across the two centres.   • Expro continues RoSPA safety success

    Expro, has been presented with a fourth President’s Award at RoSPA’s (Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents) Occupational Health and Safety Awards 2017 – building on 12 consecutive years of awards from this key industry organisation.   • Wood Group wins Maersk Culzean field contract

    Wood Group has been awarded a new contract by Maersk to deliver mechanical and management services for the hook-up and commissioning of the Culzean gas condensate field in the UK central North Sea. At peak manning, approximately 200 new jobs will be created by the project to support the new three platform, high pressure, high temperature (HPHT) development, which is expected to begin production in 2019.  The three year contract is effective immediately.
